The Sanctuary Hotel NYC: A Sexy Boutique Hotel Near Times Square

New Yorkers spend so much time weaving around tourists, racing for downtown trains, and breezing by the metropolis surrounding them, they rarely experience Manhattan the way visitors do. But during a recent staycation at The Sanctuary Hotel New York, tucked just steps from Times Square, I was reminded that even lifelong locals can still fall under the spell of the big apple.

The boutique hotel, discreetly positioned in the center of Midtown’s electric chaos, feels like a seductive pause button amid the city’s relentless song. Inside, lighting softens and noise dulls, the frenzy of Times Square becomes part of the past and you can catch a breath.

I stayed for an evening this month and with domestic tourism on the rise, Times Square delivered its tolkien eruption of chatter, staggering sight seekers and both international and local visitors alike. I was lucky enough to experience the Sanctuary Deluxe King, a room that perfectly balanced sleek modernity with intimacy. Plush robes hung beside a spa-inspired shower complete with rainfall shower pressure and a glass enclosure that reflected the warm amber glow throughout the room. The shower itself: solely glass, offered what can only be described as a subtly voyeuristic design moment. For guests daring enough to leave the curtain open, it creates a playful “sneak peek” effect straight out of a getaway fantasy. For everyone else, it doubles as a surprisingly practical way to continue watching television while washing your hair before dinner upstairs. The Sanctuary Hotel New York,

The room became my sanctuary in every sense of the word. After an afternoon walking through Midtown, I actually took a second to wander the city slowly and take the vibes in. It reminded me that I was standing in the city of dreams, a city that drives in hordes of international travelers year round. I passed theater marquees glowing before sunset, couples taking photos beneath neon lights, and street artist vendors selling acrylic printed versions of New York City that somehow still manages to feel cinematic. When I eventually grew tired of hearing speakers outside blast “Empire State of Mind” for the hundredth time, I returned upstairs, rolled the blackout curtain down, dimmed the lights, and experienced something surprisingly elusive in Manhattan: ease. That contrast is what makes Sanctuary so compelling. It allows guests to flirt with the spectacle of Times Square without becoming consumed by it.

Of course, no staycation in New York feels complete without a rooftop involved, and Haven Rooftop delivered precisely the kind of elevated escape Midtown requires. Floating above the streets below, the rooftop restaurant feels polished yet relaxed, with an atmosphere that attracts both fashion-adjacent locals and visitors chasing the fantasy of Manhattan nightlife. During my stay, I attended an extravagant Mother’s Day brunch where towers of shrimp cocktail, lobster, steak, and endless cocktails circulated through the space as sunlight filtered through the rooftop enclosure. It felt indulgent in the best way — glamorous without trying too hard.

The menu itself leans into elevated comfort food with dishes like Steak Au Poivre, Branzino, sliders, and Haven’s signature cocktails including the Cloudtini and Solstice. Hotel guests receive priority rooftop access, which in Manhattan feels less like a perk and more like social currency.

Just above the city’s chaos is also Sushi Lab Rooftop, the hotel’s chic sushi destination from Executive Chef Frankie Chen. The rooftop setting, framed beneath a canopy and glowing softly at night, offers inventive nigiri, sashimi, and omakase experiences that feel refreshingly intimate compared to the oversized dining scenes elsewhere in Midtown.

For those seeking something even more immersive, The Chemistry Room offers a 13-course omakase tasting experience hidden discreetly inside the hotel itself and perhaps that is the real luxury of a New York staycation: rediscovering parts of the city you stopped noticing. Sanctuary Hotel does not attempt to remove you from Manhattan’s energy it just carves out a space for you to rest until you can enjoy it all over again.
